Terms of Service

Last updated August 2026

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating a Hitch account or using our platform, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use Hitch.

2. Eligibility

Hitch is built for verified students. Accounts require a valid school (.edu) email address and you must be at least 18 years old. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that don't meet these requirements.

3. Listings and rentals

Lenders are responsible for listing items accurately — condition, photos, pricing, and any pickup notes should reflect reality. Borrowers agree to use rented items with reasonable care and return them by the agreed date, in the condition they received them.

4. Payments, deposits, and payouts

Rental payments (rental fee + refundable deposit) are processed securely through Stripe at the time a request is paid for. The rental fee is released to the lender once the borrower confirms pickup, or automatically after 72 hours if pickup isn't confirmed. Hitch retains a service fee (currently 10%) from the rental fee.

The deposit is held separately and resolved once the lender confirms the item's return — refunded in full, partially, or withheld depending on the item's condition on return.

5. Cancellations

Borrowers can cancel and receive a full refund any time before confirming pickup. Lenders can decline or cancel a pending request before it's paid for. Cancellations after pickup is confirmed are handled case-by-case — contact support.

6. Prohibited use

You may not use Hitch to list prohibited items (see Community Guidelines), circumvent in-app payments, harass other users, or misrepresent your identity or your listings.

7. Disputes and liability

Hitch facilitates the connection and payment between borrowers and lenders but isn't a party to the rental agreement itself. We'll help mediate disputes reported to support, but Hitch isn't liable for damage, loss, or disputes arising from a rental between users.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Hitch evolves. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. Material changes will be communicated in-app.
